Summer is still going full tilt, with tomatoes and peppers coming in and late season flowers in full bloom. But if you take a walk through the garden on one of these warm afternoons and look closely, you'll spot the first hints of fall. Bees are busy laying up stores for the winter. The first goldenrod is out, the chrysanthemums are budding, and the asters aren't far behind.
To celebrate the season, we're stocked with a beautiful selection of fresh fall annuals: celosia with its ruffled plumes, dramatic black millet, cool blue kale, black-eyed susan, brilliant ornamental peppers, our signature fall mums, and many more. Tuck them into your garden while the soil is warm, and they'll settle in and give you amazing color for autumn.

100 years, 100 butterflies! 🦋

|
This Saturday, August 29, we're gathering in the perennial yard to release 100 butterflies, one for every year that Hoerr Nursery has been part of Peoria. It's free, no registration needed, and if it rains we'll move under the breezeway.
The fun begins at 12:30pm, with the release itself scheduled at 1pm following a brief talk. Kids can make butterfly crafts, while adults can take in our featured pollinator plants, and everyone can add a paper butterfly with a favorite garden memory to our birthday garland.
