Walk your garden with Miley

"We walk the property together," Miley explains. "Talk about your vision, your style, and how you want to use the space." She takes detailed measurements and photos, as well as notes about the site itself, things like sun exposure, drainage, and soil.
If you'd rather skip the visit, Miley can also work from your own measurements and photos. Either way, the design you get will be uniquely yours, tailor-made for your garden.

Back in the office, Miley gets to work creating a scale drawing of your property showing bed layout, hardscape, and the specific plants she recommends for each area. She says, "I create a landscape plan that brings everything together, from the layout to the plant selections, making sure it's beautiful, functional, and filled with plants that will thrive."

When the design is finished, you'll meet Miley at the garden center to go over the drawing together. "I'll explain the why behind the design process, how to care for it, and answer any questions you might have," she says. "You can purchase plants the very same day, or we can collect plants for you and have them ready for pick up at your convenience."
You'll look at the recommended plants together, so you can see them in person and feel confident about each part of your design.

Spotlight on seven perennials

The garden is in its full glory in summertime, and with well-chosen plants, you can carry the color and interest all the way from the start of the season to frost. This week we want to introduce you to a few of the most interesting new plants that we're offering, including three skullcaps—a versatile and underused North American native.
Top left: Matchsticks Chrysanthemum
This remarkable mum is hardy in our climate zone, provided that the roots are well established ahead of winter. The flower color deepens in cool weather.
Top center: Appalachian Blues Skullcap
Although we've carried this plant before, it's been hard to track down. It resembles a salvia, except that it grows in shady spots. We liked it so much that this time we grew it ourselves!
Top right: Rain Dance Bush Clematis
Large, outward-facing blooms give this little plant a big garden presence. Topping out at around 2 1/2', it's great for mailboxes and mini obelisks where a full-sized vine would be too much. (Image courtesy of Walters Gardens.)
Center: Azure Prairie Sage
This native, sky-blue prairie sage brings late-season color to sunny gardens.
Great paired with black-eyed susan and ornamental grasses.
Bottom left: Smoky Hills Skullcap
Stays short, likes sunny, dry spots, and bears plenty of blue-violet flowers. A good little plant for the drought-tolerant landscape.
Bottom center: Prairie Snow Skullcap
Prairie snow skullcap is just the thing to cool down difficult dry spots! It's hardy down to -30°F, adaptable to clay soil, and resistant to deer and rabbits.
Bottom right: Silver Gem Violet
A standout small-scale groundcover for shady spots with silver-heart-shaped foliage, and dark veining. Tiny blooms appear sporadically throughout the growing season.
