The secret to late-season blooms?

Putting down roots today.

There's a whole category of spectacular plants that will fill your garden with color from late summer well into fall. And even though their time to shine is still months away, they need your attention right now!
Here are twenty beautiful, late season plants that you can bring home today:
Beautyberry
Big Bluestem
Black Eyed Susan
Butterfly bush
Button bush
Caryopteris
Chrysanthemum
Crocosmia
Echinacea
Hardy Hibiscus
Hardy Pampas Grass
Winterberry Holly
Little Bluestem
Miscanthus
Muhly
 Grass
Rose of Sharon
Russian Sage
Sedum
Seven Sons Tree
Switchgrass
Here's the thing: plants can't "walk and chew gum at the same time." Get these in the ground before they flower, and they'll establish strong roots while they're still focused on doing only one job.

Add them to your garden now and you'll get beautiful blooms year after year. All it takes is planting early, adding a little Biotone to the hole, and watering them whenever we don't get at least an inch of rain during the week.

Grasses in the shade? Sure!

With their narrow, graceful leaves and ease-of-care, ornamental grasses are one of the standout elements in a sunny garden. But what if you have shade instead?

A beautifully planted shade garden can stop people in their tracks, and it's easier to pull off than you'd think. There are a number of gorgeous grasses and grass-like plants that thrive without full sun.

The ornamental sedges (pictured below) offer striking color, while sweet flag comes in bright, variegated shades. And Japanese Forest Grass (pictured left) features a fountaining habit and golden tones that catch any available light.
These plants really come alive when paired with other elements that set them off.  Try them around boulders, alongside a water feature, or interplanted with shade perennials that contrast them in texture and leaf color. A shade garden, done right, can be every bit as dynamic as a sunny border.

Happy gardening!

β˜€οΈWeather watch:

your garden is thirsty!

Our Hoerr Nursery weather watchers are tracking a classic β€œomega block,” which means we’re settling into a stretch of warm, mostly dry weather with temps in the 80s and spotty rain that's little more than a tease for your plants.

Now is the time for a long, slow soak to help them establish strong roots and thrive during the heat ahead. Give them regular water any time that we don't get at least an inch of rain, and if you want to go the extra mile...Ernesto swears that singing to them helps.

Whatever the weather, we’re here to help you keep your plants happy!
