For this fun event, gardeners flock to Hoerr Nursery to sit with a Garden Expert for a 20 minute appointment for planning an important small space in their gardens.

“This is a great service for anyone who needs some help with a special small area in their landscape; something like around the base of a tree, at the edge of a patio or surrounding a garden bench,” said Dave Ploussard, Garden Center Manager. “The customer meets with a garden expert and discusses the space. Then the Garden Expert does a sketch of the solutions that they have come up with.”

Jane Mason added, “The 20-minute appointment goes fast, so it’s best if the customer is prepared with measurements of the space, an idea of how much sun the space gets and which direction it faces. Some people bring in photos; that helps the designer focus in on what’s a good match for the customer. Even though our Garden Plan Sketch days are busy days, everyone enjoys them –we get in the spring planting mood and we get to solve landscaping dilemmas. And, the customer loves getting legitimate information for Central Illinois. And since there is no charge for the service, it makes the sessions very popular.”

March 14th and 15th are the days for the Garden Plan Sketch event at Hoerr Nursery for Spring 2008. The Garden Plan Sketch appointments are available on the half hour from 10:30 – 3 pm each day; call 691-4561 to arrange an appointment. If you require a session longer than 20 minutes, that can be arranged for a fee of $40/half hour. Garden Plan Sketch participants will receive a packet of helpful garden information with a coupon for the Garden Center, a meeting with a Hoerr Nursery Expert, and a garden-plan sketch designed specifically for their location.

“Even though we expect the store to be busy, our store is accessible and with our level lot and parking at the door, we can handle a crowd. Plus, with our wonderful new enclosed GardenHouse, in addition to our Garden Center, we have plenty of room for shopping inside – out of the elements. No matter what the weather, inside our fabulous high-ceiling greenhouse it’s a great shopping experience,” said Ploussard.

If the client is interested in more extensive landscaping solutions, landscape maintenance for a larger area, or for projects like stone walkways, steps or stone walls, which are beyond the scope of the free Garden Plan Sketch, they are invited to talk to a Hoerr Nursery landscape designer. A representative will be available during the sketch sessions to answer questions for customers who may have larger landscape issues.
