Hoerr Nursery Launches New Website

Peoria, IL -- Hoerr Nursery launched an entirely new web site this week. The 81+ year old nursery and landscape design business embraced the World Wide Web a number of years ago. At that time, it created an extensive web site to present products and to offer an encyclopedia of information to its visitors.

“We’ve retained the web address. Our former web site had good traffic and an incredible depth of information,” said Jane Mason, Marketing Director. “Unfortunately, technology left it behind. The architecture of the site was causing it to crash. We knew we needed to start from scratch. We designed the site differently than any other nursery site that we know of. We wanted it to present and highlight the magnificent plant life we have here in central Illinois. It needed to be fun, engaging, informative, user-friendly, and present all our services and products. We have so much to offer – it’s challenging to present it all.”

One of the most popular aspects of the previous site was the “catalog.” It was a lengthy listing—over 2000 pages—of perennials, trees, shrubs and vines. The new resource, now named the “Hoerr Nursery Plant-o-Pedia” is being completely rebuilt from scratch and will be live on the site in late spring, 2008.

“The concept of the former catalog was fantastic, and much of the information was terrific,” said Mason. “It’s a huge job to rebuild and re-research the plants and find solid photos to present with the products. We know it will be valuable and well used when it’s launched next year. We will continue to have our very popular Growing Guides. This is a resource of over 100 guides on everything from how to plant a tree to how to select grass seed for your lawn or how to manage insect infestations – it’s hands-on information available as a simple document or a PDF.”

The newly designed site will have promotional offers, such as coupons, that are available only on the web site. Upcoming additions to the site include calculators to help visitors estimate the amount of mulch, topsoil, sod or other products they may need for their jobs.
