Hoerr Nursery Introduces "Gardening 101"
Sessions Start This Thursday, September 11
Peoria, IL. – Hoerr Nursery is introducing a series of seven GardenTalks on the basics of gardening. The series is titled, Gardening 101. The sessions are free, open to the public and each topic will be held on two different days, a Thursday at 5:30 and a Saturday at 9:30, to allow participants to pick the session that works best.
“Many customers want basic information in an easy to ‘digest’ bite,” said Jane Mason, Marketing Director. “Each presentation is only 15 minutes long so we’ve distilled the most important facts down to key concepts. People are busy – we understand that—but they want basic proven knowledge in order to be successful with their lawn and garden. We know how enjoyable gardening is, and we know it doesn’t have to be complicated. That’s what Gardening 101 is all about: simple, to-the-point knowledge so you can enjoy gardening. The sessions are led by our horticulturists and garden experts. They’ll be on hand after the sessions, too, to answer specific questions from customers.”
There will be brief handouts for every session, and suggested websites for more exploration. You can attend different days each week, and as many or as few sessions as you wish.
Gardening 101 Topics:
- Sept 11 & 13: What comes first: the plants or the soil or the plan?
- Sept 18 & 20: Difference between mulch and compost and why should I care?
- Sept 25 & 27: Perennials for greatest success and ease of care.
- Oct 2 & 4: Shedding Light on Sun and Shade: how to make sense of it?
- Oct 9 and 11: Lawn care for fall: what do I do now?
- Oct 16 and 18: Containers to carry me through all seasons.
- Oct 23 and 25: Putting my Garden to bed for winter.
If a participant attends four or more different topics in the Gardening 101 Series, he or she will earn a Certificate of Completion, and a certificate for a FREE 8” Pot of a Hoerr Nursery poinsettia, Retail Value, $34.99. (Attendance for the complete session at four topics is required.)
It is suggested that first time homeowners or new homeowners take the sessions as well as Gen Xers, Gen Yers, or members of the Millennial generation. Even experienced gardeners may be introduced to new products of techniques as the sessions.
“I have been gardening all my life, but it wasn’t’ until I started working at Hoerr Nursery that I learned some simple techniques that can save a lot of time. Plus, I was introduced to new products and plants that I had no idea even existed,” said Mason. “That was part of the thinking behind this series. Let’s start with the basics so customers can save a bunch of time and money and get off to s good start. Or, for those people redoing or expanding their gardens, these are the tips and ideas that can really make a difference. Not complicated; just new.”
