3rd Place in North-American Merchandising Contest

Peoria, IL. – Hoerr Nursery has received a merchandising award for its introduction of Hort Couture™, a new line of high end plants in distinctive packaging.

“We were delighted to receive the third place award in this major competition,” said Jane Mason, Marketing Director. “The second place winner has multiple stores in Ontario, Canada, and the first place winner was from New York. Our goal was to launch this product line with some zip—and we did!”

The prize included co-op advertising credit, some Hort Couture merchandising tools for 2009, and other branded specialties.

“We have an exceptionally creative staff who works hard on all our displays. It was great to have an opportunity to be judged against the big players in our industry and have our team recognized as some of the best around,” said Mason.

The team working on the display included: Kris Hermann, Lisa Potter, Sara Stubbs, and Evie Torres.

The display strategy included capturing some of the distinctive elements of the Hort Couture packaging by hand-painting a free-standing wall and doorway with fleur de lis elements. Also repeated from the packaging was a harlequinesque diamond pattern. The display included meticulously arranged pots with in-house designed posters and point of purchase display elements. Nestled in the display was an inviting bistro table and chairs, also adorned with Hort Couture plants. The display was launched during the spring “Idea Breakfast” at Hoerr Nursery, and became a backdrop for the GardenTalks that were held at the nursery throughout the spring.

Hort Couture offers plants that are long-lasting and healthy. Also, its diverse selection of colors and varieties are new to the horticultural world.

Hoerr Nursery was featured as the cover story on the July issue of Today’s Garden Center magazine, a publication distributed to 20,000 garden centers. Hoerr Nursery has been named in the “Top 100” of all Independent Garden Centers in the Country by Nursery Retailer Magazine. It has also been recognized, for the third year in a row, as One of the Top 100 Revolutionary Garden Centers in the Country.
