Maiden Grasses

The plants that make up the Maiden Grass group are also known as Eulalia, Japanese Silver Grass and by the botanical genus name of Miscanthus. They are the most well-known and popular of the ornamental grasses.

Quick Facts:

  • All cultivars love the sun, and thrive in any good garden soil
  • Appreciate moist conditions and a little extra fertilizer. Too much fertilizer will cause the plant to grow to tall to support itself
  • All the species and cultivars we offer are “clump forming,” non-invasive plants
  • These grasses are perennials in Central Illinois
  • Grasses will perform better if the dead foliage is cut down to the ground in the beginning of April
  • Maiden grasses naturally die out in the center when they are about ten years old. You can rejuvenate them, however, by digging and dividing the clumps in the early spring.
